Bringing in Spring

Before the temperature even bumped its way back up this week, these lovely blooms made their way to me. Bright and colorful, we brought in spring, uplifted moods, and daydreamed of milder days.

bright blooms, spring, warm after long cold winter

Spring isn’t my favorite season, but there is no denying the welcoming presence of a few bright, bold flowers.

Cinnamon and Peaches

A few weeks ago, I had a hankering for comfort food in the form of pancakes (or flapjacks, if you prefer). I could clearly envision them topped with lightly sauteed peaches. Could practically taste them. So of course, I went about making my enthusiastic, good-natured argument of “pancakes for breakfast!”

We used Kodiak Power Cakes to make sure we amped up our protein intake. S made the flapjacks and I went to work on our nearly-unusable peaches. Nothing a little butter in the pan and cinnamon can’t fix!

The aroma was heavenly. The taste was delightful. I felt rejuvenated and cared for, sensuous and fragrant while eating this meal. When was the last time you had breakfast for dinner? What are your favorite “breakfast for dinner” recipes?

“Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.” ~Sarah Ban Breathnach

Sarah Ban Breathnach’s books, Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self and Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort And Joy were both influential in my pursuit of all things sensory. It was something that I had adopted, perhaps not consciously, well before I had read the books, but it was through these readings that I became more intentional in seeking and enjoying every morsel of the sensory life.
